The Pink Container
The Pink Container
The Pink Container is our fully off-grid, one bedroom converted shipping container, set in its own private garden on our farm in the Masai Mara. Designed for comfort and simplicity, it features an open-plan living area with a self-catering kitchen, a cozy double bedroom, a bathroom, and outdoor seating areas where you can relax and enjoy the surroundings.
The container comfortably sleeps two guests in a queen-size bed. For larger groups, the garden tent is equipped with two twin camp beds and beddings, accommodating up to two additional guests.
The bedroom includes a comfortable queen-size (5' × 6') bed, a wardrobe, spare blankets and pillows, and a mosquito net. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas oven, fridge-freezer, toaster, cookware, utensils, cutlery, and everything else you should need to prepare meals during your stay for up to four guests.
The bathroom has a solar-heated hot shower, flush toilet, and sink, with hand soap and body wash provided.
Outside, you'll find a BBQ grill (please bring your own charcoal or briquettes), as well as a fire pit where we'll happily light you a bonfire in the evenings.
As we're completely off-grid and there are no recycling facilities in the Masai Mara, we're committed to reducing plastic waste wherever possible. Treated drinking water is provided in the kitchen in reused 5-litre bottles, and we're happy to refill them throughout your stay whenever needed.
For more information about things to do during your stay, please visit our Activities page.
Other things to note
As we're located in the bush close to a river and water reservoirs, mosquitoes are common, particularly in the evenings. We recommend bringing and using insect repellent. For your comfort, we also provide insect spray and plug-in mosquito repellents inside the house.
Being surrounded by nature also means you may occasionally encounter some of our smaller neighbours, such as spiders, beetles or lizards. We do our best to keep them outside, but as with any bush property, we can't guarantee that the occasional visitor won't find its way indoors. If you're very uncomfortable around insects or spiders, our accommodation may not be the best fit for you.
Wi-Fi is available within The Pink Container compound and is suitable for general browsing, messaging and emails. As we're in a remote location, speeds may not always be sufficient for streaming or heavy data use, and occasional weather-related or network outages can occur. Airtel and Safaricom mobile networks are available in the compound, although signal inside the container itself can sometimes be limited.
Narok, our nearest major town, is approximately 80 km (around a 1.5-hour drive) away. We recommend purchasing all your groceries and self-catering supplies before leaving Narok, as shopping options in the area are very limited.
If you'd like to sample some of our farm produce during your stay, we often have fresh eggs, milk, honey, and, depending on availability, turkey and lamb for sale.
If you'd prefer to relax and leave the cooking to us, we also offer a full-board meal package for an additional US$50 per person, per night. Please let us know in advance if you'd like to arrange this.
Please note that we don't have card payment facilities on the farm. Any additional purchases can be paid in cash (Kenyan Shillings or US Dollars) or via M-Pesa.
Staying off-grid
One of the things guests love most about The Pink Container is that it's completely off-grid, powered entirely by solar energy. This means no noisy generators and no interruptions from national grid power cuts. To help us protect the system, we ask that you don't use high-power appliances such as hair dryers or electric kettles. If you're unsure whether an appliance is suitable, just ask—we're happy to help.
We also rely entirely on harvested rainwater, which is especially precious during dry seasons. We'd be grateful if you could help us conserve water by keeping showers to around 10 minutes, turning off taps when not in use, and collecting the cold water while waiting for the shower to warm up using the bucket provided. It's perfect for watering the flowers instead of going to waste.
Our toilet is connected to an environmentally friendly biodigester system, so please flush only toilet paper. For all other items, please use the bins provided.
Smoking is not permitted inside the house, but you're welcome to smoke in the garden using the ashtray provided.
Finally, we're surrounded by wildlife and enjoy a peaceful natural environment. If you'd like to play music, we simply ask that you keep the volume respectful and observe quiet hours between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am.
